It’s official: Dallas is no longer just a host city; it is the International Broadcast Center (IBC) for the FIFA World Cup 2026. This month, 485,000 square feet of high-tech broadcast space goes live downtown at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center.
Think of this as the "Mission Control" for the world's biggest sporting event. Over 2,000 media professionals are moving in to handle TV, radio, and digital coverage that will reach billions. This is the second time Dallas has been trusted with this responsibility (the first was in 1994), proving that our infrastructure—from Victory Park hotels to DART transportation—is world-class.
Can’t-Miss January Sports
If you’re a sports fan, grab your calendar. Between the Mavs, Stars, and the rise of women’s soccer, there isn’t a single "off" night:
- Dallas Mavericks: Playing a massive 15 games this month.
- Dallas Stars: Keeping the ice hot at the AAC.
- Dallas Trinity FC: The USL Super League is in full swing. Catch them at the Cotton Bowl in Fair Park.
Community & Culture: MLK Week 2026
Dallas takes MLK Celebration Week seriously, with events running from January 13th through the 19th. The theme this year is "Remaining Awake Through the Great Transformation."
- Jan 14: Huge Job Fair at the Briscoe Center (Fair Park) with 75+ employers.
- Jan 17: MLK Fest at the MLK Community Center, featuring a community cleanup and mural painting.
- Jan 19: The Annual MLK Day Parade, the week’s signature event, marching through the heart of South Dallas.
Theater & Shows: A Night on the Town
The historic Majestic Theatre in downtown Dallas is the place to be for entertainment this month. If you’re looking for something beyond the typical concert, check these out:
- Mania: The ABBA Tribute (Jan 23): A 70s throwback party.
- The Choir of Man (Jan 30): An Olivier Award-nominated show set in a pub.
- Blade Runner Live (Jan 31): Watch the 2007 Final Cut of the sci-fi classic with a live synthesizer score performed by The Avex Ensemble.
The Real Estate Update: Is Now the Time to Buy?
We are seeing a market shift that hasn't existed for several years. While the median home price in Dallas is holding steady at $435,000, the leverage has moved toward the buyer.
Market at a Glance:
- Days on Market: 57 (Up from 44 last year).
- Negotiation Power: Homes are selling for about 3% below asking on average.
- Inventory: Increasing, giving buyers more options and less "bidding war" fatigue.
With the World Cup excitement building and potential changes in the economy later this year, this "quiet" window in January might be the best opportunity for buyers to get a deal before the global spotlight heats things up.
